posted on 29.07.09 Tokyo - Wacom developers event

I wanted to understand how SW developers ‘tick’ in Japan. Therefore I organised an informal event through the local web2.0 community. Six developers showed up for beer and talks. It was great to get first-hand insights such as these:

  • Japan is coming from a manufacturing background, it does not (yet) have a culture for software/internet development
  • Many graduates from college prefer to take jobs at large corporates, instead of trying to freelance software development

It feels great to visit a foreign city, meetup with total strangers and have a great evening. My colleagues from Wacom Japan who joined me at the event loved it too.
